Tiger Talk with the Coaches – 4/7

The Pacific Athletic Foundation is set to host its third Tiger Talk this spring on Tuesday, April 7 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with head softball coach Brian Kolze and director of athletics Janet Lucas. Emceed by the voice of Pacific men’s basketball, Zack Bayrouty, student-athletes Madison Kahwaty and Madeline Domingo will also join the talk.

Kolze recently wrapped up his 28th year in the Pacific dugout, marking the longest tenure by a head coach in both program history and the West Coast Conference.

Despite the abrupt halt, the Tigers began 2020 with a 3-0 record under Kolze’s guidance for the first time since 2013. Individually, Myka Sutherlin and Bethany Hammer shined in the circle, capturing two WCC Pitcher of the Week honors in three weeks for UOP. Additionally, both pitchers sported sub-two ERAs at the end of the season, with Hammer leading the conference and ranking 24th  overall in Division I with a 1.14 mark. On the other hand, Sutherlin carried a 1.97 ERA and ranked second in the conference with 57 strikeouts.

At the plate, Hanna Krosky burst onto the college softball scene in her first season with Pacific, ranking third in the WCC with a .413 batting average and opening the season going 6-for-10 at the Titan Classic in Fullerton with two RBIs, a triple and two runs.

As a team, the Tigers seemed to be on the upswing as they came two wins away from matching their 2019 total, tallying 15 wins through their 25 games played.

Janet Lucas will also join the conversation this upcoming Tuesday, explaining how to navigate and direct an athletics department through these unnerving times. Overall, Lucas is in her second year at the helm of Pacific after time at UC Riverside and California State University, Northridge.
