Today I spent time visiting with a few PAF Fund Drive Workers that could not attend the Kick-Off. We have hit the ground running as all of the teams are out asking for donations! A couple of Fund Drive Workers stopped by my office today to pick up more brochures and gift envelopes.

Our office received some more renewals today that increased our cash dollars raised to $68,000. This is a huge difference from last year ($30,000 at this time).

As part of my blog I would like to showcase a new feature called “Getting to know the Fund Drive Workers”. Each day I will display an interview with a current Fund Drive Worker.

1) Tell us about yourself

I’m a two time graduate from Pacific, graduating with my BA in 1997 (History) and my JD from the McGeorge School of Law in 2000.  I’ve been involved in all things political for quite a long time, and currently serve as one of two partners in CrossCurrentsLLC, a political and public affairs consulting firm.   If you see me at a Pacific Men’s or Women’s Basketball game, I easily stand out as the guy who is jumping up and down, cheering at the top of his lungs and other wise acting as if life or death depends on the outcome of the game (you mean it isn’t?)

2) How did you become interested in Pacific Athletics?

I became interested from the moment I first stepped on campus.  I was the first in my family to be able to attend a four year University and graduate from College, and I wanted to enjoy as much of the college experience as possible.  Growing up as an ESPN junkie, I couldn’t wait till the day i got to be one of the students in the crowd.  I loved every moment of it, culminating with that March day in 1997 we made the “Big Dance”…after all, how many people can say their team, when they were in school, made the tourney?  In the grand scheme of things, not that many…too this day makes me feel lucky to call myself a Pacific Alumni!

3) Why did you decide to Volunteer for the Fund Drive this year?

We’re at a crucial point in Pacific Athletics.  Being in the West Coast Conference that has a National Profile.  We need to prove that we belong on a National Stage, and that requires all hands on deck.  We have great staff and coaches in our Athletic Department, but they need our help.  If everyone does their part, we can help make Pacific a national name year in year out.

4) Why should someone join the PAF?

To give back for all that Pacific has given to us.  The memories of our college years that last a lifetime.  The pride we have in being able to call ourselves Pacific Alums.

For those of us who live in the Stockton area, it goes even further than that.  Pacific represents Stockton every time they show up on ESPN, or Fox Sports, or any other TV network.  For as much bad press as our City receives day in and day out, we have young men and women on the playing field who represent us with distinction and show the nation that there’s more to Stockton than bad headlines..  If they are going to represent us, and our city, to the best of the ability, isn’t it only fair that we work to give them the tools to do it at a high level?
