PAF Fund Drive Raises $73,500 In New Cash; Most In Ten Years

The Pacific Athletic Foundation Fund Drive at the University of the Pacific came to a close on Wednesday, June 24 with 116 new members and $73,500 in new cash, the most net new cash during a Fund Drive in over ten years.

The seven-week Fund Drive, which started on April 27, had 53 loyal volunteers going into the community asking for donations to support the PAF’s new initiative the “PAF Impact Fund”. The Impact Fund is a donation reinvestment fund that was established by the Department in 2013. After meeting our Base Scholarship Obligation (BSO) to the University, any additional funds above and beyond the BSO are placed into the Impact Fund and used by the Department to improve the environment for Pacific student-athletes.

“We are very excited about our great Fund Drive Workers raising $73,500 in new cash,” said Dr. Ted Leland, Director of Athletics. “Speaking on behalf of the administration, coaches, and student-athletes, Pacific Athletics is very thankful for the time and effort of our dedicated volunteers and grateful for the generosity of our loyal donors.”

Last year, the PAF Fund Drive generated $53,100 in new cash and 79 new members as there has been constant growth each year since the rebranding and reorganization of the PAF back in 2011-12 when the PAF only had 310 cash members and was raising $144,000. This past year, the PAF finished with 515 members and $390,000 in cash donations. The $73,500 from this year’s Fund Drive will go toward meeting the PAF’s fundraising goal of $400,000 by March 2016.

“We are very fortunate to have a great group of volunteers. They worked very hard with the mission to help create a better experience for Pacific student-athletes. It is essential for us to raise more money for the PAF Impact Fund in order to have our sports programs be successful in the West Coast Conference,” said Chris Lynn, PAF Executive Director.

The Team Winner was “Eye of The Tiger” led by Dr. Jonathan Loo and Leland Noma as they finished with 25,787 points ($18,400 new cash, 29 new members). Rick Paulsen won the Top Fund Drive Worker/Individual Award with 18,075 points ($12,775 new cash, 11 new members), and Sam Ruiz was the Rookie of the Year ($2,100 new cash, 9 new members).
